Wright, who was active in two spells as a heavyweight between 1986 and 1999 before launching a brief comeback in 2007 and a final stint in 2011, fought the likes of Frans Botha, Michael Moorer, Tony Tucker and Chauncy Welliver on his way to winning several WBC regional straps right into his twilight years.
Revealing his fate earlier this month, Wright is now seeking help to prolong his state of mind as the terrible sickness eats away at his brain.

We have tried to keep my brain disease a secret. It’s hard to explain why. At this point, due to the very progressive nature of the brain disease, I must reach out for help to raise money for treatments.
I have very good insurance, but the problem is there are no traditional treatments or cures that will stop this disease from causing my brain to atrophy to nothing.
So we are super hopeful about some alternative treatments, such as, stem cell treatments, cebrolysin injections and a few others that are showing significant success in slowing for some and complete reversal for others.
Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover this. And I really do not want to, literally, lose my mind. So we are asking for help.
Big step for me. I have been a fix it myself kind of guy my whole life. This is a disease that can affect anyone it seems. It may be rare now but in a short time who knows.
