Klitschko: Joshua v Wilder has to happen, sooner the better!

The younger of the two top division rulers was asked his opinion on the current Anthony Joshua v Deontay Wilder saga as both sides haggle over making the fight this year.

With a contract winging it’s way to Wilder from Joshua’s camp on Friday. Klitschko discussed the matter with Sirius XM host Randy Gordon.

Randy: “If you could be a negotiator, would you make the Anthony Joshua v Deontay Wilder fight happen?”

Klitschko: “I believe it probably must happen, the question is when?

“This question those two guys cannot answer. It’s their promoters, sanctioning bodies, broadcasters…so everyone does not actually unite the sport but divide the sport.

“The same as either they unite in the matchup, two fighters, or divide them due to different circumstances because the deal’s not looking good.

“Must it happen? Absolutely, yes. And I believe in this case, the sooner it happens is probably better for Wilder. The later it happens, probably for his disadvantage due to age gap and Joshua getting more experienced.

“He’s getting better and better with every fight. So certainly there is a time pressure on Wilder’s side,” added the Ukrainian.

An announcement on terms could be made by Friday evening (Eastern Time) as Wilder advisor Shelly Finkel patiently awaits the paperwork from Eddie and Barry Hearn.
