‘GGG’ is holding out for a 50-50 split of the purse despite already signing a previous deal of 65-35 in favor of Canelo before the clash on Cinco de Mayo was called off.
Canelo is out of action until August following a suspension for traces of Clenbuterol being found in his system and Golovkin says this element should hand him a bigger slice of the pot.
The fight is now seriously in jeopardy, at least for 2018, as Golovkin and promoter Tom Loeffler stand firm on their demands.
Sulaiman believes the return bout should be made at the earliest convenience and sees Golovkin being better off not delaying the encounter any further.
The WBC head also reminded Golovkin of another mandatory on the horizon as Jermall Charlo waits in the wings for his shot at the green belt.
“Golovkin has all our support, but if the fight is not done he will have to go with Charlo because the entire history is clear as it is,” Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes.
“We are recommending to him to do what is best for him because he wants to do the rematch and he wants to earn the money that he will generate there.
“He also wants that visibility that he has always wanted around the world.
“He has sacrificed so much for so many years to get to this point and now for something that is not so important (money) is putting him at risk.
“It would be strange to me if that fight is not done,” he added.
The likes of Gary O’Sullivan, Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs and Charlo himself have now emerged as alternative targets for Canelo, whilst Golovkin would have to battle either Sergey Derevyanchenko or adhere to Sulaiman’s stipulation against the number one contender in order to keep at least three of his four belts.
