Kell Brook cools 2018 interest in Amir Khan, Jarrett Hurd the focus after July return

The 32 year-old former welterweight world title holder made a successful transition to 154 pounds earlier this year when stopping Sergey Rabchenko in the early rounds.

With new momentum in tow, Brook is eyeing a shot at the IBF and WBA titles currently in possession of Hurd, with a potential catchweight against Khan to follow in 2019.

Brook will firstly return this July before he bids to secure a shot at Hurd and the chance to become a two-weight world champion by the end of the year.

“Kell will be boxing in July and then after that we are looking for the big one,” promoter Eddie Hearn exclusively told Sky Sports.

“Of course Amir is the big focus but I was interested to see Jarrett Hurd’s comments and that’s a fight we would definitely be interested in.

“Hurd is a great fighter and huge at the weight but Kell has his heart set on trying to become a two-weight world champion so all the champions are targets.”

Following a barrage of social media exchanges, Hurd is on board with putting his belts on the line against Brook, but only in his homeland of America.

“Not sure when it would happen, maybe we’re looking at some time in October or November, but I want it this year around the end of the year,” Hurd exclusively told Sky Sports.

“But Kell will have to come over here. I am the champion, so he should travel here,” he added.

Should Brook be successful in his quest to once again become a world ruler, a first defence against Khan could be on the cards at an agreed weight of around 150 to 152 pounds in the summer of next year.

Wembley Stadium or Brammall Lane in Sheffield would be the likely destination for a Brook v Khan title fight.
