Eddie, We have a ‘Problem!’: Broner / Hearn deal turns sour but can it be salvaged?

Broner confirmed he was offered a deal to join the new Matchroom USA / DAZN revolution but decided against accepting a three-fight deal and posted the actual offer on his Instagram.

The $6.75m package equated to Broner fighting a trio of bouts for promoter Hearn from September 2018 to September 2019.

Broner was rumored to be one of Hearn’s top targets when the Brit promoter landed a massive US streaming contract with Perform (who run DAZN), although it seems ‘The Problem’ was far from impressed with the approach.

“I’m sorry Eddie Hearn. You a good guy and all but you tried to give me a worst deal than Roc Nation offered me. #TheShitIsOVA#SlaveDeal ??????????”, posted Broner.

Never one to mince his words, Broner is more ‘About Billions’ than millions as his slogan states, although with a draw against Jessie Vargas to his name recently may be open to an improved proposal.

A fight against Amir Khan was said to be part of the offer, which eventually could have lead to another world title shot but means Hearn will have to look elsewhere or improve his terms significantly.

It’s thought Broner would be open to a deal around double what Hearn was able to muster, but with around $7 million per event on average, that may well be out of the price range for a DAZN show.

Hearn would have to put on some cost-effective shows in order balance out this books, with Broner seemingly out of reach for the time being.

The first Matchroom / DAZN event is scheduled to take place in September, so it looks as though Hearn wants a marquee signing to kick off the new $1 billion eight-year partnership.

All the top stars who are looking for improved terms on their own contract will be on Hearn’s radar, including a host of Al Haymon fighters, although Broner may well be out of bounds for Matchroom USA’s maiden show of the new deal.
