Stevenson and Jack fought their hearts out at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto in a contest which was eventually confirmed as a draw by the three ringside judges.
Despite both taking massive punishment, Stevenson and Jack refused to hit the canvas in one of the most entertaining light-heavyweight encounters of recent years.
Immediately following the bout, talk of a rematch was apparent from both men, as Jack eyed bringing Stevenson to Las Vegas and the belt holder aimed for a Canada repeat.
The enthusiasm from Stevenson and Jack was met by a scything tackle just 24 hours later though when mandatory challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk’s manager Egis Klimas put a dampener on talk of a second helping.
Responding directly to WBN on social media, Klimas announced his intentions to lobby the World Boxing Council to ensure Stevenson faces Gvozdyk next and not Jack.
When asked his view on the possibility Stevenson may not be able to follow through with fans wishes to agree an immediate return, Michel stated the long-reigning champion would face Jack again in either of his next TWO contests.
“What is the most important for Adonis is to keep his WBC light heavyweight title that he has successfully defended nine times now,” Michel exclusively told World Boxing News.
“Adonis wishes is to be more active than in recent years, so it is obvious he will fight both Jack and Gvozdyk (in his next two fights) – no matter in which order.
“It is important to give to the fans the fight they demand, but it is also important for a WBC champion to fulfill the organization’s requests.
“These are two sensitives principles to deal with and we will do so in the near future,” he added.
With a certain Fight of the Year nomination to come, the appetite for Stevenson v Jack II will remain high over the next few months unless Gvozdyk seals his opportunity first.
During the recent WBC mandatory status update, Gvozdyk was named the next in line and it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out as Jack and promoter Floyd Mayweather hold their breath for a second opportunity.
