EXCLUSIVE: Ashley Theophane reveals whether Amir Khan fight is possible for UK comeback

The former super-lightweight Lonsdale Belt holder, who left home shores in 2012 to sign with ‘The Money Team’, is currently training in Las Vegas ahead of his next move.

WBN caught up with ‘The Treasure’ as he underwent a training session at the world-famous Mayweather Boxing Club near Chinatown just off the Las Vegas strip as Theophane contemplates which of the leading British promoters he’ll link up with.

Asked a specific question on whether a deal with Eddie Hearn to face Amir Khan was possible this year, the 37 year-old former world championship challenger didn’t believe he was on the welterweight star’s radar.

“We compete at different weights but I’d move up to 147lbs if the money was right,” Theophane exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Amir has had a great career, and I don’t think it matters or not if he becomes world champion again. Olympic medalist and two-time world champion and campaigned in the USA for years.

“He has my ultimate respect as a fighter,” he added.

With the likes of Chris Van Heerden and eventual choice Phil Lo Greco in the frame for Khan’s successful comeback fight last month, Theophane revealed no contact was ever forthcoming for him to travel to Liverpool.

“I was never contacted about that fight and didn’t think I would be,” he pointed out.

“I met Phil the Saturday before the fight in Las Vegas at Sub Zero Recovery and he was confident he’d win.

“I’d heard rumors from sparring that wasn’t too promising though, so I thought it was always going to be a straightforward victory for Amir.

“But I wished Phil all the best and thought anything can happen in boxing,” concluded Theophane.

Theophane has plenty of options at 140 and 147, with more to outlined on what the future holds soon.
