Exclusive: Carson Jones confirms middleweight move on June 23

The 31 year-old, already a veteran of 56 bouts, is riding a two-fight losing streak and has decided to make the move north after weighing just over 158 pounds for his recent clash with Ted Cheeseman.

Jones’ loss to Cheeseman came on the back of a controversial reverse to Antonio Margarito in Mexico and Jones knows he needs he can ill-afford to suffer a fourteenth career defeat against Butler.

“I’m moving up in weight another class to 160 which will be against a Canadian by the name of Steven Butler on June 23rd,” Jones exclusively revealed to World Boxing News on Tuesday.

“My plan is to use this opportunity in front of me to see where I’m at. I need to see which direction I go at this stage of my career and try to get back on track.

“I didn’t have such a good outing last fight and need to redeem myself. In fact, I looked terrible that night (against Cheeseman). Nothing was going my way from camp to fight night.

“Typically, behind the scenes hiccups didn’t help but it seems there was an abundance of them this time around. Cheeseman should not have beaten me and I know that.”

Asked whether a return to the UK would be considered in the future after the British Isles became his second fighting home, Jones replied: “Right now I’m focused on the guy in front of me but after I’d love to come back one more time.

“Obviously, I gotta get paid so obviously if there’s good money available I’m there.

“I could even move back down to 147 pounds for the right fight, of course or at least I’d try,” he laughed. “I haven’t seen that weight in ages but I think I could do it but only if the money was right,” added Jones.
