Exclusive: Yvan Mendy chasing WBC title shot, eyes Mikey Garcia but open to Luke Campbell rematch

The 32 year-old has fought and been victorious seven times since defeating Luke Campbell to place himself in contention for a shot at the WBC lightweight belt and says he’s hoping to face Mikey Garcia if a rematch offer from the Briton isn’t forthcoming.

“I strongly feel that it’s my turn,” Mendy exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I am very excited to fight for the world title,” added the ex-French title holder.

Mendy’s coach, Giovanni Boggia added: “Yvan is in the shape of his life. Mickey Garcia or another opponent, we are ready!

“I would prefer to fight Mickey Garcia for the WBC title as he doesn’t scare us, but a rematch against Luke Campbell could be very exciting too!”

Former Olympic and world champion Brahim Asloum, who promotes Mendy, is expecting to schedule a fight in France this coming June to keep Mendy’s activity at the same level.

“I’ve held some talks with the promoters involved and I’m looking to move forward towards the best option,” Asloum told WBN.

Mehdi Lafifi, Yvan’s manager, wants to land a big challenge for his fighter.

“Yvan is number one with the WBC at lightweight and has been since his brilliant win at the O2 Arena versus Luke Campbell,” he pointed out.

“Mendy is considered as a world-class fighter. Now he deserves a chance to show his talent to the world.

“We are looking at Garcia, Campbell, Fortuna, Crolla or Nakatani.

“So let’s make a deal and get in the ring!

“Mendy wants the green light to fight for the green belt,” added Lafifi.
