Earlier in the week, Pellulo informed WBN his fighter Demetrius Andrade would be willing to step-in for Canelo on May 5th should the Mexican be suspended for more than one positive test for the banned substance Clenbuterol.
Speaking further on the matter, Pellulo has looked at the frame of mind Golovkin may be in following an out-of-character media outburst at a hastily arranged press gathering at camp in Big Bear.
“I don’t know what’s in Gennady Golovkin’s mind and if he feels at an unfair advantage because Canelo is on juice or not,” Pellulo exclusively told World Boxing News. “I don’t know if any of this is true and whether it was the meat or that he was on the juice, I just don’t know.
“All I can do is speculate, and if I had to speculate, I think a lot depends on what Gennady Golovkin wants to do and does he feel that he’s at a disadvantage because Canelo is using performance enhancing drugs?
“You also have to weigh in the factor that there’s a lot of money in the fight, a lot of money.
“He’s a very good guy, Tom Loeffler and I promoted his very first fight in America on HBO. The problem is the fact that he got robbed in the first fight with Canelo and that sticks in his crawl. Let’s face it that’s what happened.
“He didn’t lose the fight and Adalaide Byrd’s scorecard was wrong. The other judge, Don Trella (scoring a draw), nobody said anything about him because Byrd was so off, but he was also wrong.
“I’ve been promoting fights for 30 years and I know when a decision sits in a guy’s stomach, in his core. It’s bugging him, and now Canelo tests positive so he’s figured he’s going to get another screwing.
“That day when the reporters came to Big Bear, he went off – he lost it. Because knows what happened to him and it could happen to him again like in the 1st fight with Canelo.
“There’s more money on the table for Gennady with Canelo that he could get to fight anybody else, but does he feel he gets jobbed again? It all depends on what he wants. When it’s all said and done, Golovkin likes to be a champion and likes fighting. He’s good for the sport.
“When he’s at home with his wife and children does he think about that first fight and what happened to him. Personally, I don’t know what the judges were thinking.
“Now Canelo’s tested positive for drugs, some athletes would walk away from that, but I find it hard to think that Gennady would. “
On Andrade replacing Canelo to face Golovkin, Pellulo concluded: “When it comes to Demetrius Andrade stepping in, it’s a fight we’ve been trying to get for him and would love to take if the possibility came up.
“He’s already preparing for the 12th or 19th of May and Demetrius is always in the gym. It’s a great fight for the fans!”
