Bob Arum no longer involved with Manny Pacquiao, even in a Jeff Horn rematch – says lawyer

Eldibrando Viernesto has stated Pacquiao can work on his own promotions moving forward and Arum is no longer part of arranging deals for forthcoming events.

“I reviewed the contract and I found out that Bob Arum has no more say even in the rematch, should there be any, between Manny Pacquiao and Australian boxer Jeff Horn,” Viernesto told philstar.com.

The news comes on the back of Arum admitting he was unsure about his future involvement with the eight-weight world champion, who intends to plough on with a fight against Lucas Matthysse in co-promotion with Golden Boy and Oscar De La Hoya this summer.

“De La Hoya called up asking me if we could reset the Manila launching after the Holy Week. That’s why it (Manila press conference) was moved to April 4,” Pacquiao also told the news source.

The Matthysse fight has been set for June 23 (June 24 in the Philippines) and will take place in Malaysia. There’s yet to be any formal announcement regarding TV rights or distribution but it’s thought ESPN will continue to broadcast Pacquiao bouts due to their separate agreements with both Top Rank and Golden Boy.

Pacquiao is aiming to pick up another world title (although only the regular version of the WBA belt) against the hardened Argentinian after growing frustrated with attempts to seal a fight in America.

The ‘Pacman’ has been looking for an opportunity to fight closer to home and taking on Matthysee in Kuala Lumpur seems an ideal scenario for the boxing legend.
