As Parker prepares to fight Anthony Joshua on March 31 in Wales, Higgins spoke to WBN to give his views on Wilder’s recent win over Luis Ortiz.
Wilder blasted out the Cuban in one of the most entertaining top division bouts in recent memory but displayed vulnerability which Ortiz almost took advantage of in the seventh round.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ was seconds away from being taken out, although recovered to retain his WBC crown in a contest Higgins held praise for.
“It was good fight for heavyweights, but he was open I thought was very interesting,” Higgin exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I think that wilder has got a dynamite right hand that can knock out any heavyweight if he lands it, but I also thought he lacked good technique.
“He was sort of wide open and I think that anyone who can box well and punch straight will beat him.
“I think that Parker can defiantly beat him just by boxing well and punching straight as Wilder is there to be hit.”
On Wilder’s tactics of coming in a trim 214 pounds, Higgins added: “I couldn’t believe what he weighed in at. His legs were as big as my arms,” he joked.
“But that doesn’t mean you lack power. It goes to show that someone my weight can punch as big as a heavyweight like Wilder.”
Any future fight between Parker and Wilder is possibly off the table until 2019 due to a rematch clause with Joshua, although Higgins refused to look further than the end of this month and will assess what happens next on April 1.
“That’s the beauty of the 31st of March, you have got Parker with a granite chin against Joshua, where there are some question marks.
“So if I was him, I would ease the Wilder negotiations until April 1st.
“I mean, I won’t start negotiating with Wilder until we beat Joshua – that’s not our style.
“I’m not sure about the other camp though, as it seems there seems to be public Wilder negotiation going on currently,” concluded Higgins.
