The pair sat opposite each other for an amicable chat with host Johnny Nelson recently, where Joshua explained how he can relate to the New Zealander, who has roots in Samoa.

“His upbringing, you know spiritual people, solid people, same as my family, spiritual, solid, born in Africa,” said Joshua when looking Parker in the eye.

“Came here for a better future, so I know how that goes, and struggled, so I know how that goes.

“Worked hard, and that’s why I see him as one of the lions in the jungle.

“There is a lot of underlying desire in myself and him as well, I’m sure, and that’s why I see that lion in him.

“He wants to fight and get it on. He’s a champion and no-one gets to this point for no reason,” he added.

Joshua puts his trio of world title belts on the line against Parker’s WBO version at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with the winner set to be just one strap away from completely unifying the division.

Deontay Wilder, the WBC holder, will be ringside in commentary duties for Showtime, with eyes firmly fixed on landing Joshua should be come out on top.
