EXCLUSIVE: Ashley Theophane reveals post-Floyd Mayweather promotional contract plans

‘Treasure’ has been working with Floyd Mayweather’s ‘Money Team’ promotional outfit since 2012 and was part of the former pound for pound king’s 41st birthday celebrations in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Recently fighting successfully in Germany, Theophane is hoping to secure a final career flourish in his native United Kingdom before hanging up his gloves and swapping them for mitts somewhere down the line.

“I’m 37 years old now so every year, you see how you feel. I’m in Camp now. I’ll start sparring soon and go from there,” Theophane exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I want another world title shot and one fight back home, that’s the dream before the end of my career.

“I’ve had 50 professional fights. That’s hard on your body. 41 professional victories, and to my knowledge, no other active British fighter has more.

“For a fighter who was blacklisted and shut out from the British boxing industry, I’ve done fantastic and I’m very proud of my achievements.

“I’ve been British Champion, world title challenger and won four other championships in Europe. I’ve also fought and won in five different countries. I’ve achieved the majority of what I wanted to do when I first got into boxing as a kid.

“Soon it will be time to give back and I’m working on plans to have my own Treasure Boxing Gym in London.

“I’ve been a member of All-Stars Boxing Gym for 30 years and been training at the Mayweather Boxing Club for six of those years. They are two of the best gyms in the world and now I want my own gym.

“I want to help kids get off the streets and focus their energies on something positive. Anyone who is interested in fitness to get a good workout, really.

“I think it’s almost time to offer my experience to the next generation,” he added.

Sharing the ring with numerous champions and world title challengers during his career, Theophane has racked up a wealth of knowledge working alongside the biggest name in boxing, wisdom which he can pass on to the youngsters aiming to forge their own path towards success in the years to come.

Prior to that, Theophane is hoping to land a shot at Terry Flanagan should the Manchester man overcome Mo Hooker and claim the currently vacant WBO super-lightweight belt on April 14.
