Bookies already have Mayweather a massive underdog at +550 to prove to everybody he can make the transition to UFC as talk continues of a possible summer return between the pair.
The original fight, which grossed 4.3m PPV buys to become the second biggest fight in history behind Mayweather v Pacquiao, was unsurprisingly won by the boxer in a boxing ring, leading to the majority of those making predictions to assume the same will happen in reverse inside a cage.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan, known for his strong views on the sport, believes Mayweather wouldn’t put himself in a predicament where he could be hurt really bad – ego and all.
But should he decide to face McGregor with eight sides surrounding him, Rogan says Mayweather will need to play things smart in order to survive in the there.
With the fractions and number crunching against Mayweather, a massive shock and highly unlikely victory could see boxing fans clean up.
“Whatever the f**k Vegas puts on (Mayweather v McGregor 2) that’s cute,” Rogan said on his UFC podcast.
“I don’t care if it’s 10-1, 100-1, I bet it’s going to be like 900-1. It’s gonna be something ridiculous. Buster Douglas was only like 42-1 (when he beat Mike Tyson in the biggest shock of all time), so this is gonna be insane if they’re smart.”
On potential tactics, Rogan added: “Because Conor’s going to kick his legs out, he’s not even going to have a chance to come close enough. Conor’s going to kick his f**king legs out, so he (Mayweather) doesn’t have any chance.
“Then if Conor decides to shoot in and clinch, he’s going to clinch and he’s going to ragdoll him.”
Praising Mayweather as a master of his own art in boxing, Rogan questioned whether past injuries could play a part in hampering the ‘Money’ man’s chances further.
“He’s on another level of everybody who is on another level. Can Floyd fight the same way he does with big gloves, with MMA gloves?
“The reason why I say this because Floyd’s broken his hands multiple times. He’s had some serious surgeries on his hands. Maybe they’ve cured it, and maybe it’s fine.
“We’ve all known for the longest time, Floyd preferred puffier gloves when he’s fought.
“But he hasn’t had hand problems in a while, so maybe he did fix it, and his hands looked f**king great against Conor (when he won last August),” he added.
