Exclusive: Focused Willy Hutchinson outlines ambitious title plans ahead of third pro contest

Hutchinson is the only Scottish boxer ever to win a world amateur gold-medal, and with confidence from past successes, hopes to translate that into pro world titles.

The young prospect made his professional debut last year with a swift first round stoppage of Atilla Tibor Nagy and followed that up with a second round win over Frenchman Cyril Joly.

When asked why he turned to the paid ranks when he did, Hutchinson explained exclusively to World Boxing News: “I believe I achieved everything I wanted to on the amateur scene and it was time to go to the professional ranks, that’s the main reason.”

New Olympic rules mean that professionals can fight at the Games, which led to Hutchinson refusing to close the door on competing for a medal in the future.

“Of course I don’t see why not, I would still compete at the Olympics and it’s another option, but my aim right now is just to become a professional world champion.

“That’s the path I’m going down but if that comes my way why not, I’m open to it,” he said.

With his next bout sharing a Hayemaker Ringstar card with stablemate Joe Joyce’s second pro outing, Hutchinson is bidding to execute the next step of his masterplan.

“Yeah its a strong division, but there’s no one like me, I’m Willy Hutch with the magic touch and don’t forget it, I’m the man!

“I’m on the way up and in the next couple of years I’m hoping to be up there with the best in the division,” Hutchinson concluded.

Headlining the Feb 16 show will be Olympic silver medallist Heavyweight Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce who entered the professional ranks in emphatic style in October.

He now faces 25-year-old Rudolf Jozic from Croatia whose recent fights in Germany have been getting a lot of attention.

The third explosive match-up is between current English Champion and former Commonwealth Champion and current English Champion John O’Donnell (32-1, 11KO).

O’Donnell defends his English Welterweight title against all action fighter Tamuka Mucha (16-1, 4KO) of Reading.

The fight will be broadcast live on February 16th on UKTV from 9pm.
