Could David Haye be set to land Channel 5 TV dates?

WBN understands Haye has had communications with Channel 5, which could see the likes of Joe Joyce and Willy Hutchison eventually featuring on the station in the future.

As WBN exclusively revealed last week, Haye outbid Frank Warren massively to land the mandatory British cruiserweight title clash between Matty Askin and Stephen Simmons on March 17.

So far, Haye’s stable – which includes Joyce, Hutchison and former MMA star Michael Page – has been showcased on freeview and satellite’s Dave Channel, with another fight night scheduled to air on UK TV next month.

Having signed a three-year deal with UK TV in the summer of 2017, it’s not yet clear how the deal will work or whether it would be similar to that of Spike and Channel 5 who have shared coverage in the past.

The deal will be a huge one for Haye in order to give his fighters exposure on one of only five terrestrial channels, with Heavyweight hope Joyce leading the charge to title fights in 2018.

Joyce is due to feature on the February 16 card before then moving on to the Tony Bellew v Haye rematch undercard on Sky Box Office – with Channel 5 having the potential to screen a British championship attempt for the ‘Juggernaut’ later in the year should the deal get across the line.

Whilst British boxing has struggled to secure big dates on the likes of the BBC, ITV (ITV 4 / Box Office) and Channel 5 have always been open to broadcasting with some promoters and Haye s could soon become the latest to be given a platform to display the obvious talent in his stable.
