Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor II: Octagon rematch a step closer after latest claims?

Mayweather, 40, is coming off a stoppage victory over UFC’s biggest star in Conor McGregor and recently said a ten-figure deal to switch codes is possible.

Despite potentially being an underdog with the Matchbook Live Betting to face McGregor again in the Irishman’s expert code, Mayweather is serious about a venture into the unknown.

“Floyd talked about it, apparently,” Rogan stated when presenting his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience this week.

“This is one thing I can tell you, Dana (White, UFC President) told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC. Like legitimately. So I texted him, ‘Is Floyd really talking about fighting in MMA?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, he’s crazy. I told him he’d get killed but he’s still talking about doing it.'”

On the subject, Mayweather himself stated during a live Periscope chat with his fans: “If I want, I can go, I can come right back to the UFC, I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three or four fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars.

“Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, and you love me, and I love you!”

Don’t forget, Mayweather’s hair-brained scheme to fight McGregor in the boxing ring was initially ridiculed before making the pair a massive amount of money back in August.

‘The Money Man’ being choked out or submitted under MMA rules would have no bearing on his perfect 50-0 boxing record and some may say would be completely separated from his legacy in pugilism.

Other could argue Mayweather is set to tarnish one of the most amazing C.V’s ever compiled as the veteran chases another pot of gold when he already has several at home.

Going from beating the likes of Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and Canelo Alvarez in the squared circle to taking on some of the lesser names in MMA doesn’t seem like a smart move for Mayweather though and he’ll need to learn some alternative moves quickly in order to swim instead of sinking in UFC.

McGregor will certainly fancy his chances of doing a job on Mayweather during what could become painful five minute rounds for boxing’s former pound for pound king, but you’d have to think the rumors may ultimately be just that to keep Floyd’s name relevant in retirement.
