Speaking to WBN in reflection of what was a second career reverse against the tough Aussie, the 27 year-old admitted veering from the gameplan and struggling somewhat to get to grips with the whole occasion.
“It wasn’t my best performance, I’ll admit, but it’s alright. There’s lot of things I should have done, it just didn’t work out,” Corcoran exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I was very tense going into the ring and I kind of froze on that stage. I didn’t perform like I had been in sparring. I didn’t bring any of my training into the fight.”
Almost immediately, the contest took the pattern most expected and heads began clashing to the detriment of both boxers. Corcoran got sucked into fighting Horn’s kind of fight but still believes the referee could have made things a lot cleaner in there.
“It really got messy. If he came in with the head over here, the fight would have been stopped, but he gets away with it over there,” pointed out Corcoran.
“He’s an awkward fighter and he might not mean it, but his head comes in a lot. I had six stitches on one eye on a cut that went through the flesh; another cut, I think I had four, and bottom of the eye had paper stitches in – all from head clashes, but what can you do?
“His tactics, I always thought were going to be messy, and after a certain number of rounds he moved in angles because his tactics through the fight weren’t working. He did what he had to do, he beat me. It wasn’t my best performance, so it’s a big learning curve for me.
“The one thing I should have done was listen to my trainers as they told me to box and use my jab, but I never listened one bit!
“I wouldn’t mind fighting him again in England, on a level playing field at home. I really do think he gets away with a lot. But certain things happened, and I lost. I now have to get over it.”
On what could be next, Corcoran concluded: “I’m taking a month off.
“After my break, I’d like to look at the British and European titles next year and see where we go from there.
“Then, I’ll build myself back up to world title fights again, and learn.”
