Lewis believes Horn didn’t look his usual self when boiling down eight pounds in just 24 hours prior to the weigh-in and needs to move up to avoid a mandatory confrontation with pound for pound star Terence Crawford.
“Jeff Horn looked so drained at the weigh-in for the Corcoran fight, it was like he’d had a bout with Count Dracula the night before,” said Lewis to the Courier Mail.
“He looked emaciated,” added the 2017 Boxing Hall of Fame inductee before commenting on what could be a tough ask to make weight again for Crawford.
“Jeff Horn has been the best thing to happen to Australian sport in a long time and I would hate to see him fight Crawford seriously disadvantaged.
“Jeff relies so much on his huge mental strength to keep pushing through. I’m not saying he can’t beat Crawford, but it’s madness to give him such a huge headstart,” pointed out Lewis.
‘The Hornet’ managed to fend off the challenge of Corcoran late on at the Convention Centre to make the first successful defense of his belt since dethroning Manny Pacquiao.
With the 154 division bustling with talent, Horn could be a sound addition to the ranks and be in line for match-ups with the likes of Erislandy Lara, Sadam Ali, Liam Smith and Kell Brook instead of Crawford.
Becoming a two-weight world champion would also be on Horn’s mind and could play a huge part in what will be a massive decision to make in the coming weeks.
