The 26 year-old, who lost for the first time as a pro against Callum Smith as part of the World Boxing Super Series in September, is confirmed to be in a serious condition.
“As previously reported, Erik Skoglund was taken to hospital yesterday having felt ill after a training session in his hometown of Nyköping,” Sauerland stated.
“Erik was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent surgery last night to repair a bleed on the brain.
“Doctors are pleased with the results and Erik remains in a serious yet stable condition. The next 3-4 days are critical for his recovery.
“During this time, we ask that everyone respect the privacy of Erik and his family. We will communicate further information when it becomes available.”
Skoglund went the full distance with undefeated world-rated contender Smith at Liverpool’s Echo Arena but was in high spirits and back in the gym for a clash opposite another Brit, Rocky Fielding almost immediately.
As the Fielding contest was due to take place on the ill-fated Tony Bellew v David Haye undercard on December 17, Skoguland was then informed that the fight was postponed.
A new date or alternate bout was said to be forthcoming and prompted Skoglund to continue his work in a bid to be ready when the call came.
Tragedy has now struck the likeable former European light-heavyweight champion and WBN would like to take this time to wish Erik all the best with his recovery.
