The World Boxing Super Series semi-final between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr. is set to take place at Manchester Arena.

WBSS officials are set to make a formal statement regarding the super-middleweight unification bout this Thursday, with Saturday, February 17 the date in mind.

World Boxing News reported the possible venues a few days ago as Kalle Sauerland named London or Manchester as the two cities being considered.

Manchester has now been chosen over London as Groves v Eubank heads to the formerly MEN Arena for one of the biggest bouts of the year.

A stadium had originally been on the cards, although the timing of the rigid format for February meant open-air was ultimately ruled out.

The Arena holds a capacity of up to 20,000 though, meaning there will be ample room for what is certain to be a sell-out contest early in 2018.

Groves won his place with a stoppage win over Jamie Cox in the quarter-final, whilst Eubank impressively defeated Avni Yildirim away from home in Germany.

Eubank is a slight favourite for victory despite Groves representing what should be the toughest test of the IBO champion's career so far.

In the other semi-final, Callum Smith will battle ex-world title holder Juergen Braehmer, with Liverpool or Germany to be decided as the venue soon.

Rumors Smith will be forced to travel have surfaced in order to give the tournament a worldwide appeal, although nothing is yet set in stone until WBSS make the final announcement.
