Kell Brook explains reasons for delaying retirement

‘The Special One’ has scarcely been seen since losing for the second time in his career as sporadic visits to the gym have been coupled with several reports of going off the rails.

Brook has decided to make changes to the way he’s been living his life recently, and as he told Bob Westerdale of The Sheffield Star, the 31 year-old doesn’t want to go out like that.

“It is very important to me that I just don’t walk away from this many fans, some of them die-hard, who have followed me all over,” said Brook

“I want to give something back to them because they give me the buzz, they really cheer me on.

“They still haven’t seen the very, very best of me and I want to show that.”

Addressing his tendency to enjoy a socially-charged lifestyle during his downtime, Brook added: “I like a beer but there is only so much you can drink and only so much food you can have.”

“(I need) something else to get up for and get my mind occupied- the challenge of training, sparring and dieting, working at my best. Not having to think: ‘What can I do now?’”

Back-to-back losses against Gennady Golovkin and Spence, both of which saw Brook suffer bad facial damage requiring surgery, have taken their toll, although the Yorkshireman aims to put that right in his next outing.

“It (the Spence loss) burned me really bad, but time is a healer and it makes you stronger to get back in.

““When you are no longer champion you find out a few things about yourself. You want to rebuild and get better.

“I don’t feel the pressure on me now I have been beaten. I want to enjoy myself and give the fans 100 percent.”

Whether that means just one more bout or a full-time active program for Book remains to be seen, whilst hopes of finally sealing a clash with Amir Khan were recently dashed by his career nemesis.
