Promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping an offer of over five million dollars will be enough to entice WBC champion Wilder over to the UK for the first time since a 70-second win over Audley Harrison in Sheffield back in 2013.
Despite Wilder putting together final preparations for his mandatory rematch defense against Bermane Stiverne, Hearn chose to make the offer in the aftermath of Anthony Joshua’s tenth round stoppage of Carlos Takam in Wales.
Wilder is not expected to accept the advances this week as the ‘Bronze Bomber’ focuses on firstly retaining his green and gold strap at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York.
Once over with, and with an expected second victory over Stiverne, serious talks could begin provided Wilder’s promoter Lou DiBella is on the same page.
In earlier reports, Wilder accepted an offer to trade blows with Whyte in order to get to Joshua, but whether DiBella (who doesn’t get on with Hearn) is of the same mindset is anyone’s guess.
Hearn is already eyeing a co-feature clash featuring British light-heavyweight champion Frank Buglioni, possibly rescheduling his collapsed encounter with Callum Johnson.
The pair were due to fight at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff at the weekend, although Johnson was forced to withdraw and Bugilioni stated following his win over replacement Craig Richards that the undefeated challenger was his preferred option.
Failing that, a clash with former foe Hosea Burton would be no consolation prize should the pair decide to finally sign on the dotted line for another helping.
