The “Tornado de Tijuana” Margarito (40-8-0, 27 KO’s) and “Mr.” Jones (40-11-3, 30 ko’s) will face each other over 10 rounds at super-welterweight, in a fight to be televised by the Casa del Boxing, Azteca 7 in another great feature of Zanfer Promotions with the support of the Municipal Government of Chihuahua.
Margarito said that his preparation, experience and desire to be a world champion will be factors to overcome Jones clearly and give the fans a great fight.
The Mexican superstar also said he hopes to land a third fight with his greatest rival, new WBO champion Miguel Cotto.
“I am at the best level for years and come with the condition to fight 10 intense rounds,” said Margarito.
“This fight is important for my plan to become world champion again. I want to face Miguel Cotto in a third and definitive fight. Jones will not be the one that prevents me from this fight. We will win in a clear way, they will see the best version of Margarito and we will give a great fight to the fans.”
Margarito said that this third fight following his return to the ring after four years of absence, will be true proof of what he can achieve at this late stage of his career.
“I had great preparation without any problems and I feel like in my best days. The power, speed and pace of the fight are like when I was world champion.
“I hope Jones will come to fight and not to run and the fans will be witnesses of a great fight that I will win in a forceful way,” stated the 39 year old.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Carson Jones said he respected his rival’s career but warned that he would be leaving the ring without his arm raised.
“I have more boxing skills, more speed, better pace and youth than Margarito. Not only do I come to win, I come to claim the world ranking and retire a Mexican boxing legend,” said Jones.
