‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley makes it official, retires from fighting

The 45 year-old, who won world titles in three weight classes and faced the best around, had hoped to end his career on a winning note.

Mosley had admitted his body won’t allow him to train the way he wants to, although the Californian has since told WBN this is not the real reason for his retirement.

Instead, speaking about his defining moment when defeating Oscar De La Hoya, not only in 2000 but in a rematch in 2003, Mosley said of his career high: “It was such a big event,” he said. “I am so grateful Oscar gave me that opportunity to showcase my skills on a worldwide level so people could see who ‘Sugar’ Shane was.

“When I fought Oscar it really put me on the world stage and I kept on winning and knocking people out,” told ESPN.

Summing up how his approached being involved in the sport, Mosley said his sole intention was to bring joy to the people.

“I worked hard and I wanted to be a world champion and to make people happy when they saw me fight and I think I did that,” Mosley stated.

“People being happy and enjoying my fights and seeing that I put 100 percent into it was important to me and people have always shown me appreciation for it.”

Pomona’s finest hangs up his gloves just one victory shy of 50, with ten defeats and one draw.

WBN wish him all the best in the future.
