Pearce has been paired with the slippery Alexander for his pro bow at the high street establishment a week on Saturday (August 5), writes Craig Birch.
Alexander, aged 29 and from Newark in Nottinghamshire, has racked up 66 paid contests in three years. He’s won only five times, three by TKO, but has gone the distance on all but three occasions.
The Venue show has been titled ‘Knocked for Six,’ as Dudley’s Les Byfield and Rowley Regis’ Tyler Denny are both featuring over six.
Super feather Byfield, from Netherton, and middleweight Denny keep up their record on appearing on every pro card together going into their ninth outing, four of those coming at the Venue lights.
Pearce and fellow Brummie Kane Baker, from Bartley Green and Rednal respectively, engage over four rounds from the home corner in the welterweight division, as does Nottingham’s Ekow Essuman.
It’s been a long time coming for Pearce, who joins old sparring partner Baker in turning over from the unlicensed game.
The 23-year-old won over 40 contests at that level, but agrees it’s a whole new challenge to become a fully-fledged pro.
He said: “I’ve always wanted to be a pro boxer, when I came into the sport I dreamed of becoming a world champion one day!
“I enjoy boxing and people tell me I’m good at it, now I’m hoping to take it up as a career. I’ve been fighting since I was very young, my mum first took me to Aikido when I was eight years old.
“When I was a teenager, I had a bit of fight in me, so I decided to take it into the ring rather than on the streets. I have a lot of fun doing it.
“Boxing is a lifestyle choice, it’s changed my mindset and my parents have been really good with their support, Michelle and Wayne, with such things as my diet.
“They’ve keep me on track, too, because they know how much potential I’ve got. It’s changed my life and I want to accomplish everything I can.”
Pearce will not pay Alexander’s experience too much respect when the bell rings and is remaining focussed on his own display.
He added: “Opponents only box how you let them, so it’s down to how I perform on the night. I’ll do my best and I was a power puncher in the unlicensed game.
“The left hook is my favourite shot, but I’ve been working with my jab in my training camp and my movement and defence has been good. Combinations are the way forward.
“When I first started preparing for the pro game, I felt like a beginner, but I’m up for learning and that starts with my first fight.”
