Briggs banned for doping, Oquendo set to face Ustinov for Joshua v Klitschko mandatory

Briggs and his team were notified since the test results were known and they were given the opportunity to open the B sample, as indicated in the body’s regulations.

However, they did not take this option and, according to the regulations, he must comply with the respective sanction that expires on November 13th, 2017.

The rules of the WBA are public and are supposed to be known by the boxers and their respective teams.

WBN Note: As per the WBA’s heavyweight tournament, Briggs’ original opponent Fres Oquendo is likely to be pitted against Alexander Ustinov for the vacant ‘regular’ title.

Ustinov was slated to fight Luis Ortiz before a meeting with the winner of Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko, although an agreement is now unlikely.

Ortiz is chasing a WBC chance at Deontay Wilder leaving Russian Ustinov the next in line to face Oquendo this year.

The winner will then be mandatory for the eventual victor from Joshua v Klitschko II.
