Juan Manuel Marquez return delayed / Antonio Margarito set to face Carson Jones

Marquez, 43, was due to fight next month on the back of a three-year absence, although ‘Dinamita’ has now been forced to wait until September or October, according to promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer.

Despite not fighting since a 2014 win over Mike Alvarado, Marquez has refused to step away from trading blows and wants one more shot at the big time following a warm-up fight this fall.

In contrast, 39 year-old Margarito is two-fights into his comeback from a five-year layoff and is now set to be pitted against Oklahoma City war horse Carson Jones on September 2.

Margarito has already defeated Jorge Paez Jr. and Ramon Alvarez since getting the tentative all clear from doctors in regards to his badly damaged eye, and like Marquez wants to build-up to one more headliner against one of the best around.

Talk of a possible trilogy fight with Miguel Cotto has been so far brushed off as Margarito targets a world title shot for the first time since his rematch defeat to the Puerto Rican back in 2011.

Jones, 30, is famed for his never say die attitude to boxing, having enjoyed a boost to his reputation in the UK due to fights against Kell Brook (twice), Dean Byrne, Brian Rose (twice) and more recently Ben Hall.

The American, who holds a 40-11-3 record, has won his last three bouts via knockout and is always keen to travel in order to cause an upset.
