McGregor, 29, is preparing for a once in a lifetime match-up against the best boxer of a generation in Floyd Mayweather and wants to gain experience with fighters who have competed at the top level.
Malignaggi, along with others, had been sounded out by McGregor to share camp sessions, although Schaub joked ‘The Notorious’ may be planning to rough-up the two-weight world title holder in the gym for some negative comments about him in the past.
Speaking at the Showtime broadcast of the ‘MayMac World Tour’, Schaub made a quip about the real intentions of the sparring to Malignaggi, who then laughed off any bad intentions McGregor may have when they share the ring.
‘The Magic Man’ also said he won’t be holding back against McGregor anyway, as with any sparring partner, as Malignaggi gains first-hand knowledge of the MMA star’s real boxing talent.
Schaub did state it was a smart move by McGregor to bring in the analyst, as Malignaggi consistently impresses the fans with his on air know-how during Showtime and UK broadcasts with Sky Sports.
It is thought semi-retired Malignaggi, who hasn’t been planning a return to the ring anytime soon, may have to sign a confidentiality agreement before trading with McGregor, who Mayweather’s camp believe is putting out less-than-flattering videos on purpose.
Recent Instagram clips of McGregor have widely been ridiculed by the boxing fraternity, and whatever happens with Malignaggi will also be kept a firm secret before the Mayweather fight finally goes ahead.
