Amir Khan: No more mistakes, moving up for fights I don’t need!

Khan has been out of action since being obliterated by Mexican puncher Canelo Alvarez in May 2016, and after several high profile callouts, is still in the mix to take on some of the world’s best.

The Bolton man has admitted that he cannot afford to take anymore challenges like the one that saw him completely laid out by Canelo at the T-Mobile Arena after agreeing to move up in weight by a full eight pounds.

“It’s now all about making the right choices for me, making sure I don’t take fights that I don’t need… like going up two weight categories,” Khan told Reuters.

“It was a mistake (against Canelo). But if you have to do something which is not ordinary, you have to go do something crazy.

“That would have taken me to a different level. So you have to take big risks. But it can be damaging for your career,” he added.

A clash with fellow-Brit Kell Brook may not happen straight away as Khan bids to get back to winning ways, whilst the likes of Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson would only be of some interest in 2018.

The more likely scenario would see Khan pitted against a top 15 contender on home soil, potentially at Manchester Arena, before stepping up his opposition to meet some of the best in the division.

Errol Spence Jr. could be a target as he, like Garcia and Peterson, is represented by Al Haymon and would give Khan the opportunity to test himself against Brook’s latest conqueror prior to any meeting.
