Robbers entered Rafael’s property and demanded money, but when the Team Chavez member fought back he was shot and murdered.
In a statement, the WBC said: “The World Boxing Council laments the passing of Rafael “Borrego” Chavez, brother of our beloved former champion Julio Cesar Chavez.
“Borrego” Chavez was also a professional boxer, with a record of 9 bouts victories and 2 losses.
“The WBC and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán Saldivar, send the Chavez family their deepest condolences following this grievous loss.
“MAY HE REST IN ETERNAL PEACE,” they added.
