Exclusive: Nevada chief addresses Mayweather date, points out neither fighter is licensed yet

Mayweather Promotions are set to arrange a trio of Las Vegas events, the latter of which World Boxing News understands could be a return for the former Pound for Pound king against Conor McGregor at the world famous MGM Grand Casino.

Without confirming Mayweather v McGregor is set for the date in question, Bennett said August 26 is on the list but did point out that licenses are yet to be officially received by either fighter for the cross-codes clash.

“According to our website, Mayweather Promotions has submitted requests for events on June 20, July 29 and August 26, 2017,” Bennett exclusively confirmed to World Boxing News.

“Additionally, Mayweather and McGregor have not received a boxing license for 2017,” he added.

Licenses for Mayweather and McGregor are already a formality as speculation continues to grow that a formal announcement is on the cards.

Mayweather is sparring and training regularly, according to several of the Money Team members, and will be aiming for a 50th career win against the two-weight UFC champion and considerably younger Irishman.

At 40 years of age, questions have been raised as to whether Mayweather can still compete, whilst on the flipside, many believe McGregor’s inexperience as a boxer will mean a one-sided fight for ‘Money’ opposite the 28 year-old MMA star.

More is said to be released soon as reports continue linking the likes of Badou Jack, Mickey Bey and Ashley Theophane to contests on the Showtime PPV undercard.
