The 31 year-old suffered back-to-back losses against Gennady Golovkin in September and then Errol Spence Jr. last month, damaging his orbital bone in both fights on either side of his face.
Brook previously told how his eyeball had to be moved in order to repair his first ailment at the hands of ‘GGG’ and it is thought similar could be on the cards this time around.
Those kinds of injuries are among the most worrying for boxers as chips from the bone could cause further problems and even blindness to the eyes affected.
It’s a highly unfortunate circumstance for any competitor to be injured in this way two fights running, something which can have a lasting effect on the rest of Brook’s time in the sport.
Now Brook has been put in that situation twice, there are fears for his future should the problem reoccur in his next outing and provided surgery is successful later this month.
‘The Special One’ is booked to go under the knife on June 16, prior to which Brook’s return to the sport remains under a cloud.
A fight against UK rival Amir Khan has been on the cards for some time despite being shelved on more than one occasion, although Brook has months of recovery to deal with before any solid talks can begin.
As both boxers have recent defeats behind them, Brook and Khan would also need to get back in the win column in order to make the promotion of a massive Pay-Per-View clash a smoother ride for Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn.
All talk of any fights for Brook will be halted though until okayed by the surgeon.
