Carl Frampton set for July 29 homecoming, rules out Lee Selby

‘The Jackal’ has pencilled in a date of July 29 for a homecoming contest, in which Frampton aims to reverse his fortunes following defeat to Leo Santa Cruz.

Frampton intially scored a career-best win over Santa Cruz in the United States last summer, although lost the rematch early this year at the MGM Grand.

A third match-up had been touted until Santa Cruz seemingly moved in a different direction, leaving Frampton to set-up a return to his homeland.

One fighter who won’t be in the opposite corner though is current featherweight world title holder Lee Selby as Frampton pointed out the Welshman has a mandatory challenger to deal with.

Argentine Jonathan Barros is waiting in line for Selby for a clash that should take place before the end of the summer.

Should both fighters overcome their respective tests, the closeness of their respective handlers in Sanigar and Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone, should see a contest come to fruition before the end of 2017.

Already ranked number three in the IBF rankings, Frampton could be chosen as Selby’s next voluntary so the Irishman just needs a tick-over fight to please his fans in order to get back in the win column before another world championship chance.
