Sanchez, who was just 25 years old, was killed alongside his brother Jonathan on Friday morning.
A WBC statement released on May 19 read:
“On behalf of our President Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC family send our deepest condolences to the family of former champion (Continental) David Sanchez.
‘Tornado’ Sanchez and his brother Jonathan Sanchez passed away this morning in a tragic auto accident in Hermosillo, Sonora, México.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them, Sanchez’ wife and babies.
Rest in peace Champ.”
‘Tornado’ made his debut in 2008 at the age of just 16 and fought 37 times as a professional.
The WBA added: The president, directorate members and the boxing family regrets the death of David “Tornado” Sanchez, who died on Friday morning in a car accident.
Sanchez, who was 25 at the time of his death, was the WBA 115 lbs. Interim champion. He was a great warrior, a man who never gave up, a worthy Mexican boxing representative with 37 fights, 31 wins, 23 knocked out, 4 loss and 2 draws.
Today boxing suffers a great loss because he was great gladiator who still had a long way ahead.
His last fight was an eight-round decision win over Victoriano Nunez in Sonora, which pushed the record of Sanchez to 31-4-2.
Another world title challenge was just around the corner for the likeable Mexican until his life was tragically cut shot.
