Briedis dominates Huck, claims unified cruiserweight title

The Latvian out-manoeuvred two-time 200 pound ruler Marco Huck in Dortmund on Saturday night to extend hid undefeated run with relative ease.

Huck, hoping to add the WBC belt to his IBO version, just didn’t do enough work and gifted a lot of the rounds to the more skilled challenger.

It seems father time is catching up to the record-equalling now ex-champion, who holds the record for title defenses alongside Briton Johnny Nelson.

For Briedis, the win could signal a solid reign at the top for the 32 year-old, who was the much fresher of the two and was relentless in his will to win.

On the back of twelve rather untidy rounds, Briedis was declared the victor 118-109, 117-110, 116-111 to secure the first major strap of his career.

In the co-feature, Christina Hammer pushed to 21-0 to successfully defend the WBC and WBO versions of the women’s world middleweight championship.

The tough German-based Kazakh won every round of the ten against Maria Lindberg as Hammer ratified her position at the top and the challenger dropped to 15-2-2.

Hammer had already beaten Lindberg six years previously on points, but this time did a more thorough job to keep a firm grip on her belts.
