WBC throw weight behind Claressa Shields’ headline bout

Sharing his belief in equality, WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman continues to further Jose’s dream, and works diligently to create opportunity for female fighters. As the first, boxing governing body to acknowledge and nurture great female boxers, and to hold women’s conventions, The World Boxing Council is a proud priority part of our agenda. And 2x Gold Medalist, Claressa Shields recognized that after attending the WBC Convention.

On March 10th, at the MGM Detroit Grand, Jose’s legacy via inspiration continues, and history will indeed be made. For the first time ever, two women will face each other in the ring as the Headliners on Premium Television. The WBC will be there to cheer on Claressa Shields and Szilvia Szabados as they contest the Vacant, NABF Middleweight Title.

Presented live on Showtime, Shobox: The New Generation series has energized the careers of 67 future world champions. And it is our hope, that sometime soon, one these two women will be wearing Green and Gold.

Thanks to promoter Dmitriy Salita and NABF President, Duane Ford, who sanctioned this fight, there’s a spectacular return of big-time boxing to the Detroit area, a city known for producing great champions. None greater than Tommy “the Hitman” Hearns.

We wish both of these fighters good luck and are grateful to all those involved for elevating women’s boxing to the forefront, where it truly belongs.
