The additions of a host of exciting British talent has bolstered a card that already included a heavyweight contest between David Price and Christian Hammer, plus a tasty looking 168 pound contest between punchers Adam Etches and John Ryder.
Highly-gifted Welshman Andrew Selby has joined the card as the 28 year-old battles former world title challenger Ardin Diale in what has been sanctioned as a WBC flyweight title eliminator.
Having struggled to nail down opponents domestically, British champion Selby hits the world stage for the second bout in succession and has the chance to push towards the eventual WBC title holder. Nawaphon Por Chokchai faces Juan Hernandez for the vacant green and gold strap one month after Selby’s clash with Diale as the pair aim to follow pound for pound star Roman Gonzalez as WBC ruler.
Selby could be in line to meet the victor later in 2017 and can ill-afford any slip-ups when hardened Filipino Diale comes to the Olympia in Kensington, London next month.
A second encounter to be confirmed by Poxon Sports was an eye-catching featherweight tussle pitting Barry ‘Kid Galahad’ Awad against seasoned world campaigner Joseph Agbeko.
Galahad, 26, is three low-key fights into a comeback from an extended period out of action, whilst ex-IBF and IBO champion Agbeko has won his last two since losing out to Guillermo Rigondeaux in December 2013.
Both are competing in a division with outstanding matches to be made, although Galahad will begin the favorite to add to his already impressive 21-0 record. Veteran Agbeko will be aiming to avoid a sixth loss in what will be the 36 year-old’s 37th pro outing.
As always, Eubank Jr. makes his own headlines, but with a quality card accompanying the British hope in his quest for a first world honour, the event has fast become worth buying for any non-subscription-paying boxing fan.
Four other prospects defend their perfect records on the bill as welterweight Chris Kongo (2-0), featherweight Lucas Ballingall (5-0), and Jordan’s Dennis (1-0) and Gill (16-0) feature at middleweight and super-featherweight respectively.
