Galahad faces former world champion Joseph Agbeko at London’s Olympia as part of the packed Chris Eubank Jnr v Renold Quinlan bill on ITV Box Office.
It promises to be a thrilling showdown for Galahad as Agbeko has been in with some of the very best – and never been stopped.
The Ghanaian-born New Yorker even managed to go the distance with Cuban great Guillermo Rigondeaux in 2013 and Galahad is convinced victory over the 36-year-old will trigger his own world title shot.
Galahad said: “I’ve been waiting for this type of test and it doesn’t come tougher than this. It is my toughest test so far in my career but I will come through it and it will be a world title bid very soon.
“Agbeko has got a fantastic record at the very top level and I know I am up against a quality fighter. He lost to Rigondeaux on points, which says it all, and dropped a majority decision to Abner Mares. He has also beaten the likes of Vic Darchinyan. This kid is high quality and I know I’ve got to be at my very best.
“It will be a cracking fight for the fans there on the night at Olympia and those watching on ITV Box Office. They are all in for a treat.”
Galahad has amassed a perfect 21-0 record since turning pro in 2009 and after cleaning up the domestic scene at super bantamweight he has now decided to move up to featherweight.
“I’m 26 and it just seems a very natural move for me as my body is getting bigger and I do feel ready for it. Also, there are some great fights out there for me at featherweight with Lee Selby and Carl Frampton in the frame as well as some of the best of the rest from around the world. I have been avoided by all the top fighters at super bantam so now it is time to move up and challenge the best at feather. I’m ready for it.”
Galahad, real name Barry Awad, says he will be the latest fighter from the Steel City to become a world champion – and it will be very soon.
“I’m coming into my prime at 26 and I know it is going to happen,” he said. “It is not a question of if, but when. I am so confident of my ability to raise my game to the next level. Sheffield will soon have another new boxing superstar.”
Galahad has been sparring in recent weeks with IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby and he believes the experience has been mutually beneficial.
“He learns things off me and vice versa, I learn off him. We are good for each other. He’s a nice bloke outside the ring so that helps. We have had some seriously good sparring and I hope Lee successfully defends his world title on January 28th, then comes to watch me take Agbeko apart.
“If I can stop Agbeko that will send a real message to the rest of the featherweights that I am chasing them. I’ll be giving it my very best shot. I know I can take fighters out and that’s the plan on February 4th – to make a massive statement of intent.”
