Wilder returns from a pair of successful surgeries against the Pole in his home State of Alabama next month and goes into the fight a huge favourite to extend his standout undefeated record as a professional.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ has long held ambitions to collect all the titles and Parker’s triumph over Andy Ruiz for the WBO version has firmly put the New Zealander in Wilder’s firing line for the spring.
“If all goes well with this fight I have in February, I have no injuries and my hand is healed and can take 100 per cent impact on it as well, then I want that fight (Joseph Parker unification) next,” Wilder told 78SPORTSTV this week.
“(Parker’s team) They are talking about fighting in April and I’d love to come back and fight again in April. A lot of fighters wouldn’t do it, come straight back, but I want to make a great impression in 2017.
“If all goes well with this fight, I wouldn’t mind turning right around and coming back and fighting Joseph Parker to unify the division with his WBO belt and my WBC belt, and do it that way,” he added.
Parker is currently being linked to a clash with mandatory challenger Hughie Fury, potentially in the UK or back home in Auckland, although any unification would take precedent over the number one contender meaning Wilder could steal a march on another one of his rivals should he be able to close any deal in the coming weeks.
