Amir Khan confuses with conflicting targets for ring return

Khan has been linked with the winner of Danny Garcia v Keith Thurman and a potential pay-per-view clash with Miguel Cotto already this week, something that could be a worry to Brook moving forward.

The Bolton man doesn’t seem to be in any rush to get back in the ring after correcting a long-term hand injury via surgery late last year and could be content to wait around until March when both situations become clearer.

Garcia v Thurman takes place on March 4 to decide the number one welterweight fighter on the planet, whilst Khan has claims to take on whoever comes out on top due to his lofty ranking with the WBC.

Cotto battles James Kirkland in late February in what will be the Puerto Rican’s maiden contest since losing his WBC middleweight title to Canelo Alvarez in 2015, an opponent Khan knows all about from his last outing.

Canelo took Khan out in six rounds with a devastating punch, although the defeat hasn’t had any effect on the Briton’s ability to land another eye-catching encounter in 2017.

A fight with Cotto is of some interest for Khan and could be an option for June, dependent on how the event with Kirkland unfolds in Texas next month.

The blockbuster with Brook has been slated for the spring in the UK but has logistical problems due to the Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko clash at Wembley Stadium on April 29.
