Canelo, 27, is eyeing up two bouts in 2017, firstly against Chavez Jr. in Las Vegas on May 6 before a massive middleweight encounter with current king ‘GGG’ in September.
Many see Canelo challenging Golovkin as a step too far in the autumn, although Khan believes different having been stopped by the Golden Boy star in May of last year.
“I think a lot of people underestimate Canelo. Canelo is a good fighter. He’s very strong. He moves quite well. I give that fight to Canelo honestly,” Khan told ES News.
“I even underestimated Canelo before fighting him. Even if Canelo fought Triple G, I honestly think he beats Triple G. A lot of people underestimate him and I don’t know why.
“I’ve been in the ring with Canelo. I’ve never been in the ring with Triple G, but I’ve been in the ring with Canelo and he’s hard to hit. He’s quite tricky and like I said he hits very hard, so you have to give him that respect. I think that he gives a lot of people problems.”
On the potential Chavez fight, Khan added: “He’ll beat Chavez. I like Chavez. He’s a friend of mine from the Wild Card and we trained together. But I just think that he has that style (Canelo can overcome) and he’s a little more fluid.”
Khan himself is back down at welterweight for his return to action in the spring and is currently in talks about a UK super-fight with ex-Golovkin victim Kell Brook.
