The 71 year-old, who has two sons who boxed professionally and has worked with the likes of Jean Pascal, Adonis Stevenson and Tyson Fury in a lengthy career, was told he could have no movement for the rest of his life but according to daughter Lucy has some movement in his shoulders.
A much-revered figure in the sport, Miller was inducted into the New York State Hall of Fame in 2015 and now has the whole of the boxing fraternity fighting his corner.
“What a great day today. My dad operated his own wheelchair with the use of head and shoulder controls with a goal of transitioning to arm control once he is strong enough,” explained Lucy via a Facebook update.
“We also had visits from Tom and Judy Hynes and Al Valenti. It was so nice to hear him talk about boxing and how he would be back at it soon enough.
“The Hynes boys boxed for my dad. They were outstanding fighters and grew up to be good young men.
“My dad and Al Valenti go back 30+ years and my dad knew his grandfather 40+ years ago. They shared some great stories and it was enjoyable to hear them go back and forth and reminisce.
“Again and always/ we are most appreciative of everyone’s support.”
