Exclusive: ‘I guess fighting Tony Bellew makes sense for David Haye’ – Joseph Parker

Haye was named by the WBO as the next in line once Parker takes on Andy Ruiz Jr. for the vacant belt on Saturday night, although the Briton’s decision to face Tony Bellew in March has put him out of the picture.

“For me, I guess it’s a fight that makes sense for David Haye,” Parker exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Maybe it does makes sense at it’s a good payday for him and he obviously believes in what he can do against Tony Bellew.”

On whether Parker would be willing to give Haye a shot at the title should he be victorious in Auckland, the New Zealander added: “In boxing, anything can happen and things change all the time so we’ll see what happens regarding a fight with David Haye in the future.

“Tyson Fury vacating the belts has opened up a lot of doors for other heavyweights and a lot of young fighters, so I guess it makes the division a lot more exciting,” said Parker.

Parker or Ruiz will join Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder as the main players in the top division, whilst Wladimir Klitschko is also in the frame due to the WBA’s ruling to allow the Ukrainian to fight for the vacant ‘super’ title in the spring.

Eddie Hearn told WBN over the weekend of his plans to stage Joshua v Klitschko in April next year to figure out who is the new number one at 200 pounds plus.
