Browne was ordered to face Briggs for ‘regular’ belt last month and was in the midst of negotiations through lawyer Leon Margules when the World Boxing Council flagged a failed drugs test.
‘Big Daddy’ had enrolled in the WBC Clean Boxing Program voluntarily when the Australian tested positive for ostarine on the back of a summer finding of clenbuterol, from which Browne was subsequently given the benefit of the doubt.
Once again in limbo after a frustrating 2016 of highs and lows, Browne hopes to hear soon on whether he can still compete opposite Briggs in the coming months.
“At the moment I have no idea whether the Briggs fight is on or off,” Browne exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I’m waiting on the ruling from the WBA again and what happens with the WBC.
“I’m patiently waiting but ready to go against Briggs whenever that fight takes place,” he added.
Briggs was picked ahead of David Haye for the chance to face Browne, although should the ruling go against his scheduled opponent, Alexander Ustinov or Manuel Charr could then get the call.
