Ryan Ford fights Mario Baeza on Dec 2 in Edmonton

The undefeated crossover from MMA will take on heavy-handed Mexican prospect Mario Baeza (6-2-0, 5KOs) of Guadalajara in a six round light heavyweight clash. The Ford-Baeza fight is part of a huge nine-fight card and serves as co-main event for the much anticipated O’Connell-Orozco contest.

Ford is a throwback fighter. During an era in which prospects are regularly sheltered from competitive matchups, Ford has gladly accepted challenges from other up-and-coming boxers, travelling to their home turf and bringing home victories. In his biggest win to date, Ford journeyed to Thailand to blast out Olympic gold medalist Manus Boonjumnong (5-1-0, 3KOs) in his home country, handing the amateur standout his first professional loss. Three months later, Ford stopped Malaysian national team member Muhammad Meeraj (4-1-0, 2KOS) in Singapore, once again providing the lone blemish on a highly touted prospect’s record.

Across the ring, Baeza will be looking to get back in the win column following just the second loss of his young career. In August, he took on once-defeated Argentinian German Rafael (11-1-0, 7KOs), losing via KO. Now Baeza has a shot at redemption. A win over Ford would catapult the Guadalajara hopeful into the upper echelon of Mexican prospects, bringing him one step closer to an elusive regional title shot. Yet, as Ford’s eight previous foes found out, defeating the Edmontonian is easier said than done.
