‘I can deliver Mayweather v Pacquiao 2!’ – CBS chief tells Roach

After meeting up for lunch with Pacquiao mentor Freddie Roach, Moonves gave a positive response to the multi-time Trainer of the Year on the possibility of a lucrative rematch with Mayweather.

“Let’s do it again,” Moonves said, according to Roach when speaking to the LA Times.

“Can you deliver Mayweather?” Roach asked, to which Moonves replied: “Yes” – during the conversation.

Showtime supremo Stephen Espinoza believes an eye-catching performance by Pacquiao in Las Vegas could be the catalyst to ending Mayweather’s constant denials surrounding a potential 50th fight.

“(It) certainly wouldn’t hurt on a conceptual basis, said Espinoza. “Maybe that’ll get Floyd intrigued in the matchup again.”

“Floyd’s been as consistent as he’s ever been. He says he enjoys retirement and promoting and won’t engage with us, even in a joking way, about coming back. So I’m not sure how to get the ball rolling in regard to getting him back in the ring, but I’m not going to give up,” he added.

Pacquiao’s own thoughts on the matter were stated by The Times as: “If there’s a rematch, that’d be OK. It’s so important to show my career is not over yet, that I’m still here – my strength, my quickness, my speed. It’s still there. God gave me this gift of talent and that’s what I’m trying to show to all.”

Mayweather last fought in September 2015 in defeating Andre Berto and has been globetrotting whilst promoting his own fighters to several victories since then.

As the 2014 match-up with Pacquiao fell flat, meaning Mayweather two final fights were disappointments, many are hoping ‘Money’ has a change of heart and dons the gloves at least one more time in what would be another record-breaking comeback.
