Vernon Forrest murder: Third man convicted, death penalty possible

‘The Viper’ had fought and beaten the best of his era, whilst being involved in some amazing fights that will live long in the memory of those involved in the sport.

Seven years ago, three men ended Forrest’s life, the last of which could now face the death penalty.

In 2009 at the initial hearing over the matter, Demario Crews was given a life sentence for his part in the Forrest murder, whilst Jquante Ware followed with a similar sentence in 2012.

Crews was named as the getaway driver to Ware, who was another armed robber in the incident.

Four years on and 38-year-old Charmon Sinkfield could receive the death penalty for the actual shooting of the former Olympian outside a gas station.

It’s was reported that Sinkfield fired up to eight shots into Forrest’s back giving the prizefighter little chance of survival.

Forrest was gunned down by Sinkfield as he chased Ware, who had initially taken a coveted championship ring and a costly Rolex watch as the boxer was pumping air into his tires.

The make the incident even more harrowing, Forrest’s eleven-year-old godson was inside the store using the restroom.

Sinkfield will find out his fate on Tuesday.
