Exclusive: Peter Fury confirms Con Sheehan will be fast-tracked, Irish title next

The 27 year-old will be following in the footsteps of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who won the title against Martin Rogan at the Odyssey Arena back in April 2014.

Fury is the last man to hold the green belt, one of his prized possessions, although Sheehan can pick up the title a whole lot earlier as the amateur star is pushed on due to his age and experience outside the paid ranks.

“He’s going to be fast-tracked and be right up there by next year looking to get into the Top 15, at least,” Coach Fury exclusively told World Boxing News.

“He’s 27 and he’s ready, so we will move him on quickly. He’s had a vast amount of amateur experience with close to 300 amateur fights and fought for National titles and everything.

“Con’s got his fourth outing coming up on November 5 and he’s already fighting for the Irish title, so it gives you an idea of where he’s at.”

Sheehan’s bout is set to take place at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in the same city Fury claimed his victory, whilst Peter explained his protégé should then appear on son Hughie’s high-profile undercard in December.

“Absolutely, that’s the plan. So when he gets that Irish title, if he still wants to fight we’ll stick him on the undercard for Hughie in December,” confirmed Fury.
